I recently received an 800-count box full of assorted Dodgers. Among the cards was this one:

It’s a 2005 Topps Grudge Match featuring the Giants’ Michael Tucker and former Dodger closer Eric Gagne.

The card refers back to the game on 6/24/04, in which Gagne threw high and tight to Tucker. Tucker then proceeded to point and wag at Gagne, who quickly left the mound for some pointing and wagging of his own. The two were separated, and both were ejected from the game which the Dodgers eventually won.

Tucker, of course, already began endearing himself to Dodger fans the night before when he gesticulated wildly (and pointlessly) after being tagged out by Jeff Weaver on a bunt attempt.

It’s been a while since this happened, but it’s a fond memory of Gagne’s final effective year as the Dodgers’ closer.
